Hockey is an extremely entertaining sport, but it can be viewed differently from a players point of view. Hockey demands good skating skills, speed, balance, stamina, and coordination to name a few abilities. Like any other physical sport hockey can be dangerous. That is why there is certain equipment to take precautions against injuries. Players must wear helmets, skates, stick, gloves, shoulder pads, shin guards, and a mouth guard. Players must wear these to ensure their safety. A question that has currently arose is “ How long should youth hockey periods be?” Generally there are 3 periods which last between 10 and 12 minutes in length. Is this enough time, or not enough time? Its hard to answer this question but like all other youth sports it seems like a reasonable amount of time. Youth soccer, football, and baseball are all shorter in game time so why should hockey be different. As long as there is a standard time that everyone abides by there should not be an issue. The most important thing is that the players are safe and follow hockey rules and equipment. Hockey is a great sport for our youth to learn and they should look up to the professional players as their idols.
